SEA TEACHER

The SEA Teacher Project or the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia” is a project that aims to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia. Based on the SEAMEO seven priority areas for the eleven SEAMEO Member countries to work together to improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia, “Revitalizing Teacher Education” is one of the priority areas in building and strengthening capacity of teachers in the region. The exchange is preferably for 4th year students whose major are in math, science, English and pre-school. The duration is for one month and based on the mechanism of cost sharing basis. Students’ roles and responsibilities are assigned weekly during the one month period (observe, assist in teaching, teach and reflect). There is some objectivies of this practicum, to enable pre-service student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pendagogy, to encourage the pre-service student teachers to practices their English skills, to allow the pre-service student teachers to gain a broader regional and world view, and to expose future teachers to diverse teaching and learning situation and opportunities, and the value of flexibility. In this program, I implemented it according to the procedures that have been made by SEAMEO. teach in the class and evaluation. In the first week I observed several classes that I would teach later. Then, the second week I made a lesson plan for learning that I will do. Third and fourth week, I teach in the class and evaluation. After taking this program, I got a lot of benefits and experiences. Teaching Practice

In the learning that I did, I used the TPS (Think Pair Share) model. I start the class with the “24” game, its about 10 minutes. 24 game is game where four numbers are given. Then students are required to think of operating these four number to produce 24. It is intended to encourage student enthusiasm. Then, I continued by giving a pretest to the students, around 10-15 minutes. This pretest aims to measure student’s abilities and knowledge regarding the material to be studied. Then, I explained the material to the student. After that, I instructed students to pair up with their respective peers, and then give some question to them. Students discuss solution of the problems given together with their partners. Then I went around to check their work. After all. After all pairs are finished with their work, I ask one of the students to write their results of their work in front of the class.and then, I gave an explanation and straightened out the solution to the problem given.
